Mr. Ton That Canh was born in 1903 in Thai Trach ward, now Thuan Thanh ward, Hue city. He soon had a patriotic spirit and was enlightened to the revolution before 1945. After the August Revolution became successful, he was appointed as Chairman of Phu Vinh Ward and then Chairman of the Resistance Committee of Quarter 7, Hue City. After 1947, he was assigned to continue staying and do confidential activities in Hue and surrounding areas, in charge of communication lines with the Thua Thien Hue Public Security Agency, which had withdrawn into secret operations. At the same time, both of Ton That Canh's sons, in turn, sacrificed themselves for the cause of national liberation, which further motivated him to actively participate in revolutionary activities and obtained many achievements in extermination of reactionaries.
While operating in Tu Ha - Huong Tra area, he was captured by the enemy, brutally tortured and seduced, but he refused to cooperate with the enemy. Knowing that he could not subdue the will of such a faithful communist, the enemy secretly assassinated him at the end of 1947. Ton That Canh and his two children, namely Ton That Quang and Ton That Huy, with their noble sacrifice, were good examples to encourage revolutionary soldiers who were operating in the enemy's encirclement in the Binh Tri Thien battlefield at that time. In mid-1948, after hearing that Ton That Canh and his two sons, Ton That Quang and Ton That Huy, had sacrificed heroically, President Ho Chi Minh directly sent a letter of praise and awarded the Certificate of Merit to his family with the words “A loyal family with forever good reputation”.
