Dear visitors!
Ancient capital of Hue is not only known as a historical land, rich in cultural identity with palaces, temples, mausoleums and many famous tourist attractions, but also a place associated with President Ho Chi Minh's childhood. This place also preserves invaluable heritages about President Ho Chi Minh in the late 19th century and early 20th century when he and his family lived, worked, studied and participated in patriotic activities. .
The place we are standing is President Ho Chi Minh's Memorial House of his childhood. The memorial house is located on Mai Thuc Loan Street, formerly Dong Ba Street, which is a street with many relics and historical sites associated with the years of President Ho Chi Minh and his family in Thua Thien Hue such as: "Day Trai" house (currently referred to 49 Mai Thuc Loan) where he and his family lived from 1906-1909, when Mr. Nguyen Sinh Sac was an official of the administrative agency; Xep Market - where his family often goes to buy supplies for daily living; Temple for souls of the dead - worshiping compatriots and soldiers who died in the event of the Capital Falling in 1885, the Temple where he often visits and attends sacrifices on the occasion of the Capital Falling and many other cultural sites...
This is the first house that Nguyen Sinh Cung (President Ho Chi Minh) lived with his family from 1895 to 1901. In 1894, Mr. Nguyen Sinh Sac (the father of President Ho Chi Minh) passed the bachelor exam of Giap Ngo Faculty at Nghe An examination school, the following year he took the first Metropolitan exam in Hue, but he did not pass. In order to continue the academic path, he asked someone to apply for admission to the Imperial Academy. When studying at the Imperial Academy, although there is a scholarship from the court, but it is too little including rice, oil and some money, so it is not eligible to live and study. So he went back to his hometown to discuss with his wife, Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan (the mother of President Ho Chi Minh) and brought the whole family to Hue so that he could both take care of his children and study at the Imperial Academy with peace of mind.
After going to Hue, introduced by an acquaintance, Mr. Sac's family rented a small house within the city (currently referred to number 112, new number 158 - Mai Thuc Loan - Hue city). This house was formerly a barracks of a citadel supervisor of the Nguyen Dynasty, after the Capital Falling in 1885, he was abandoned. When Uncle's family rented here, it belonged to Mrs. Ba's family. Mrs. Ba's real name is Truong Thi Le Dieu, a native of My Khe - Binh Son - Quang Ngai, a daughter of Mr. Truong Quang Dan – an academician and manager of the Imperial Academy in 1894 under the time of Thanh Thai. She married Mr. Nguyen Van Nghi (also known as Di), the third child of the high-ranking mandarin of the court named Nguyen Van Tuong, so Mrs. Dieu is often called Mrs. Ba.
Through the stories of Mr. Khiem and Mrs. Thanh about the house within the city and through the process of researching and understanding the poet Thanh Tinh (a native of Hue) in the poetic work about the childhood of President Ho Chi Minh. “Going from a lotus season”, described as follows:
“Put up provisionally at a friend’s house
Just rented a house in the South
A yellow apricot tree at the parthouse
In front of the yard, there is a thin fence of hibiscus
This side is the house of the sawmill worker
That side is the house of an official from Ministry of Justice
The row of houses with tiled roof and thatched kitchens
The gate of Dong Ba citadel is falling slant”
Experiencing time and many ups and downs of history, until the was studied and verified, it had only 4 pieces of wood left. Its original door system no longer exists, there is only the frame and tenon; The original doors of the house are basically changed in comparison to before. Through many times of restoration and improvement, the house has been restored to its original appearance, and at the same time, to create a landscape of cultural space, it is also embellished a system of gardens, wooden gates, folding screens, shallow water tanks...
